Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences (IES)

The IES, established in 1982, is one of thirty-three institutes under Academia Sinica (AS), the premier research institution in Taiwan. The Institute is located in a dedicated six-story facility, with additional annexes, on the AS main campus in eastern Taipei. The current research staff comprises approximately

IES conducts cutting-edge research in
geophysics
and
geochemistry
, addressing both regional and global geoscientific problems. In geophysics, the Institute has developed recognized strengths in
seismology

tectonophysics
, and, more recently, in
geodesy
, with an emphasis on
GNSS
and
remote sensing
for active tectonic studies. The Institute operates and maintains several regional-scale
geophysical and geodetic monitoring networks
across Taiwan and Southeast Asia. In geochemistry, the Institute houses state-of-the-art analytical facilities supporting research in
isotope geochemistry

Qualifications
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Have a distinguished record of scientific achievement and scholarly publications in a relevant field (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, geology, or a closely related discipline).
- Be eligible for a senior-level research or faculty appointment within Academia Sinica.
- Demonstrate proven leadership ability, with experience in academic or research administration.
- Possess a clear vision for advancing the Institute's research missions and promoting international collaborations.
